Penna Powers is looking for a skilled and proactive Public Relations Specialist to join our team. We’re seeking someone with at least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in PR/media relations or strategic communications who can confidently lead projects, build media relationships, and knows the Utah news media landscape. Responsibilities
- Develop and provide input on PR and media relations strategy, implementation and other activities for assigned accounts, with a particular emphasis on local media relations.
- Lead out on media events (media availability, press conferences, exclusive interviews, etc.) writing talking points, news advisories, and press releases, etc.
- Assist account managers/team leads across all departments and within the PR department to structure media relations strategies for agency clients.
- Carry out media relations strategic plans, including pitching, coordinating interviews, writing talking points/thought leadership pieces, etc.
- Participate and contribute ideas, best practices, strategies and recommendations in planning and project meetings for a variety of clients.
- Develop and execute creative and non-traditional PR strategies for clients outside of traditional media relations.
- Monitor media coverage and manage reporting for assigned clients.
- Manage time allocation to keep within budget allocations on assigned accounts.
- Maintain relationships with clients and provide recommendations and ideas to ensure expectations, goals, and results are met.
Requirements
- 3-5 years experience in public relations and media relations, background in general communications or marketing with media understanding also acceptable.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as presentation skills.
- Effective time management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize proactively and ability to produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Interest in communicating a brand narrative.
- Reliable, responsive, works well in a team environment, while also taking initiative and working independently. Comfortable taking lead on some strategy and communication.
